On Thursday, August 6th, 2015, Plastic Components, Inc. and the Engineering Resource Center opened their doors for an exclusive, Manufacturers Association for Plastics Processors (MAPP) members-only plant tour. During this event, members had the opportunity to examine the company’s production and business operations while learning about the successful expansion into a fully-automated facility. PCI & ERC team members shared information about the facilities and the company’s vision for the future.
The highlight of the tour event was an introduction to PCI’s Bunsen Drive facility that features a “lights-out” manufacturing process that recently received a United States Process Patent. This fully automated facility has the capability of running 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and has produced 400,000,000 defect-free parts since its opening in 2011. Additionally, visitors learned about the Engineering Resource Center’s rapid prototyping capabilities. PCI’s president, Tom Duffey, also shared a bit about the company’s growth, and the fact that they must credit their growth to their employees, just as much as they do to technology.
