Avoid The Holiday Rush! An Engineer's Guide To A Stress-Free Holiday Season

Posted by Molly Skiba on Nov 20, 2017

Expressions-11.jpgThe holidays are a busy time for everybody. Between gift shopping, get-togethers, dinner parties and extra busy work schedules, it can be quite hectic and stressful. Engineers tend to have stressful schedules to wrap up projects by the end of the year. This is your guide to beating the end of the year rush. After all, who wants to be working late on Christmas Eve?

1. Avoid procrastinating. Have you ever waited until the last minute to order a gift, only to end up paying hefty shipping prices because of it? Manufacturing isn't much different. Waiting until the last minute to put in a production or prototype order will cost you extra due to expedited fees. Save yourself, your coworkers, and your company extra stress and money by getting ahead of the rush.

2. Don't take too long to commit. It's wise to ensure that you're getting a good price, but spending too much time going back and forth with quotes between different prototyping companies adds days, if not weeks, to an already strict lead time. This doesn't only affect you - it affects your suppliers, the engineers waiting to test the prototype and everyone else down the line.

One of the benefits of prototyping with the Engineering Resource Center is that we have a 24 hour turnaround on quotes. This gives you an opportunity to save time and get started on your project faster. Our quotes are valid for 7 days but the quicker you approve the quote, the sooner you'll recieve your parts. Getting your parts early will put everyone's minds at ease.

3. Share your availability. If you plan on being out of the office in December, let your coworkers and other contacts know ahead of time. Remember to set up your away message and choose a reliable coworker to be the point-of-contact while you're gone. You'll be able to relax knowing that you won't be recieving calls while enjoying your holiday.

In addition, send out an email with your company's updated holiday hours and find out the same from the businesses you are working with. Even if you're working on Christmas Eve or New Years Eve, there is a good chance that many other offices are closed.

Avoid the extra stress and costs this holiday season by getting a jump start on your prototype project. Contact us today to recieve a rapid quote! Do you have any tips for beating stress at the office during the holidays? Let us know in the comments!
